Ratnagiri’s warm and humid weather is most suitable for horticulture, especially for mango, cashew and jackfruit. It has been declared as the Horticulture District in Maharashtra.

The world-famous King of Mangoes Alphanso is grown here. Ratnagiri’s cashew nuts are famous for earning ‘Dollars’ for Konkan.

This district has produced three Bharat Ratna laureates- Dhondo Keshav Karve, P.V.Kane and B.R.Ambedkar. No other district in India possesses this distinction. Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born at Ratnagiri.
